Vienna, 18 July 2022: Nelson Mandela International Day: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and its member states reiterate their commitment to the “Nelson Mandela Rules” which provide international minimum standards for the treatment of prisoners. Germany and South Africa are co-chairing the “Group of Friends of the Mandela Rules” which meets on 18 July 2022 at 14.00 h (Webcast). Germany is a major donor to UNODC for implementation projects in this regard.
