Disarmament, arms control and non‑proliferation play an important role in Germany’s foreign and security policy. The rapid speed of technological development creates the need to develop new international rules. The Federal Foreign Office is actively working to achieve progress in this respect. In March 2019 the German Foreign Office will be hosting the conference „2019. Capturing Technology. Rethinking Arms Control“ to promote a well-informed international dialogue among policy-makers, diplomats and scientists. The Conference will put a special focus on lethal autonomous weapons systems, new developments in missile technology as well as the malicious uses of cyber-instruments and the potential misuse of biotechnology.
