Willkommen auf den Seiten des Auswärtigen Amts
56th Session, Vienna, 11 February - 22 February 2019 - Germany
Item 14: Global Health
The preparations on the SPACE2030Agenda constitute an important opportunity to highlight and strengthen the role of space in contributing to Global Health.
Satellite remote sensing, global navigation satellite systems and geographic information systems make it easier to integrate ecological, environmental and other data to provide Spatial Decision Support for Global Health.
But there are multiple risks to the achievements made so far in bringing sustainable health to all people, just think of climate change, disasters, food insecurity, and challenges to sustainable water management and sanitation or economic crisis.
In response to these developments, Germany welcomes the decision to include a new item entitled „Space and global health“ on the agenda of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee and to establish a working group under that item, with Antoine Geissbühler (Switzerland) as Chair. We believe this will allow a valuable exchange regarding the crucial role of space data and technology in supporting decision-making and improved early warning measures in the public and global health Domains.
Madam Chair, Distinguished Delegates,
We thank you for your kind attention.
